DEXILANT

Generic Name : DEXLANSOPRAZOLE

ABSTRACT -

Dexilant is a medication drug that is classified as a proton pump inhibitor. This drug works by decreasing the amount of acid content within the stomach. Dexilant is generally used to treat gastrointestinal problems such as erosive esophagitis. This drug also helps treat heartburns in patients that are caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease.

DOSAGE –

    • Dexilant is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
    • The oral capsule is to be swallowed whole with a complete glass of water. Contents of the capsule can be sprinkled over food in case of difficulties swallowing the capsule.
    • General Adult Dosage available:
Oral tablet – 60mg per day (Upto 6 months for adults; 4-16 weeks for children)

  • Nausea

  • Stomach gas
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Symptoms of cold and flu/li>

RARE SIDE EFFECTS:

  • Severe stomach pain
  • Seizure
  • Difficulty in moving the hips

  • Low levels of magnesium
  • Worsening of lupus

Dexilant has moderate interactions with 82 different drugs.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of liver diseases, osteoporosis, low bone density or low levels of magnesium.
  • Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to Dexilant, or in case of the consumption of drugs that may contain rilpivirine.
  • Consult a doctor regarding breastfeeding while on drug course prior to nursing.

WARNINGS –

  • This drug can cause kidney complications. Contact the doctor in case of symptoms that may indicate problems with the kidney.
  • This drug can alter the result of certain blood tests as well as urine tests. Report to the examiner beforehand of the use of this drug.
  • The long term use of this drug can cause powdering of bones and breaking.
  • This drug may aggravate symptoms of lupus. Contact a doctor in case rashes or joint pain exist and skin discoloration aggravates in exposure to sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not recommended for children below the age of 12.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
