TYPHOID

ABSTRACT -

Typhoid is a type of bacterial infection results into fever. It is a contagious condition which can spread from an infected person, also contaminated food and water can result into this disease. Vaccines against this condition is available in the market which can partially treat and protect the person from this infection. Although, keeping it untreated can worsen the situation and it can become fatal.

CAUSES -

  • A bacteria called Salmonella typhi
  • Consumption of contaminated food and water
  • People who are Chronic Typhoid Carriers

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –

  • High fever
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain and swelling
  • Loss of appetite

COMPLICATIONS –

  • Intestinal bleeding
  • Inflammation in various regions of heart, kidney and pancreas
  • Pneumonia

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Medical History
  • Body fluid or tissue testing

TREATMENT –

  • Prescribed antibiotic medications
  • Plenty of fluid intake to prevent dehydration

RISK FACTORS –

  • Typhoid prone surroundings
  • In contact with the infected person

PREVENTION –

  • Typhoid vaccination
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene by washing hands regularly
  • Avoid consuming contaminated food and water
  • Follow medication schedule

EPIDEMIOLOGY –

  • The prevalence rate for people getting affected from this condition has been seen as 17 million worldwide as per the estimation.
  • There is an incidence of 1, 78,000 deaths resulted from typhoid when left untreated.
