Generic Name: ABAMETAPIR
ABSTRACT -
Abametapir is a topical pediculicide for head lice infestation in patients 6 months of age and older. It acts as a metalloproteinase inhibitor and interferes with processes needed for lice survival and egg hatching.
DOSAGE –

Apply abametapir 0.74% lotion once to dry hair and scalp, leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. A repeat treatment is not normally required; discard unused product after treatment.

SIDE EFFECTS –
- Scalp or skin redness
- Rash
- Burning sensation
- Skin irritation
- Vomiting
- Eye irritation
- Itchy scalp
- Temporary hair color changes
ALLRGIC REACTIONS–
(These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require medical attention.)
- Rash, hives, or severe itching
- Swelling of face, lips, or eyelids
- Wheezing or breathing difficulty
- Severe irritation after application
DRUG INTERACTIONS -
- May inhibit CYP enzymes in vitro; avoid unnecessary concurrent topical/systemic exposure in infants unless directed
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
- Do not combine with other lice treatments unless directed
PRECAUTIONS –
- For topical use only
- Use in children only under adult supervision
- Keep away from eyes; rinse immediately if exposure occurs
- Wash hands after application
WARNINGS –
- Neonatal safety is not established; approved age threshold should be followed
- Do not ingest
- Dispose of unused product; do not flush into sink or toilet
