ABALOPARATIDE
Generic Name: ABALOPARATIDE
ABSTRACT -
Abaloparatide is a synthetic peptide analogue of parathyroid hormone-related protein PTHrP(1-34). It stimulates bone formation and is used for osteoporosis in patients at high risk for fracture.
DOSAGE –

Typical adult dose: 80 micrograms by subcutaneous injection once daily. Duration of use is generally limited because cumulative exposure to abaloparatide and other PTH/PTHrP analogues should not exceed recommended limits.

SIDE EFFECTS –
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache
- Palpitations
- Fatigue
- Injection-site redness or pain
- Hypercalciuria or increased uric acid
ALLRGIC REACTIONS–
(These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require medical attention.)
- Rash or itching
- Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
- Shortness of breath
- Severe dizziness or fainting
DRUG INTERACTIONS -
- Drugs affecting calcium balance may require monitoring
- Digoxin caution if hypercalcemia occurs
- Concurrent PTH analogues should generally be avoided
PRECAUTIONS –
- Monitor calcium-related disorders and kidney stone history
- Avoid use in patients at increased baseline risk of osteosarcoma
- Use adequate calcium and vitamin D intake if clinically appropriate
- Educate on orthostatic hypotension after injection
WARNINGS –
- Boxed warning/major warning regarding osteosarcoma risk observed in animal studies
- Not recommended for patients with unexplained elevated alkaline phosphatase, bone metastases, skeletal malignancy, or prior skeletal radiation
- Use only as prescribed by a clinician experienced with osteoporosis therapy
