ANIDULAFUNGIN
Generic Name: ANIDULAFUNGIN
ABSTRACT -
Anidulafungin is an echinocandin antifungal approved for invasive Candida infections, including candidemia and certain deep Candida infections, and for esophageal candidiasis in some labels. It inhibits 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthesis in the fungal cell wall, weakening Candida cell walls and causing fungicidal activity against many Candida species.
DOSAGE -
- Dosage should be determined only by a qualified healthcare professional.
- Common adult candidemia/invasive candidiasis dosing is 200 mg IV loading dose on day 1, followed by 100 mg IV once daily.
- For esophageal candidiasis, adult dosing is commonly 100 mg IV loading dose followed by 50 mg IV once daily where indicated.
- Duration depends on infection site, culture clearance, clinical response, and specialist guidance.
SIDE EFFECTS–
- Possible side effects include:
- Infusion-related reactions
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Hypokalemia
- Liver enzyme elevations
- Rash
- Fever
- Phlebitis or injection-site discomfort
ALLRGIC REACTIONS–
- Possible allergic reaction symptoms include:

DRUG INTERACTIONS–
- Cyclosporine may increase anidulafungin exposure but usually does not require routine dose adjustment.
- Other hepatotoxic medicines require liver-function monitoring.
- Antifungal therapy should be guided by culture, susceptibility, and infection source control.
- No major CYP-mediated interaction pattern is expected compared with azole antifungals.
- Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, vaccines, and supplements they are using.
PREAUTIONS–
- Administer by IV infusion only; do not give as rapid bolus.
- Monitor liver function and clinical response.
- Evaluate for source control in candidemia and invasive candidiasis.
- Use in pregnancy only if benefit justifies risk as determined by a clinician.
WARNINGS –
- Serious hypersensitivity or infusion reactions require immediate discontinuation and treatment.
- Failure to clear Candida bloodstream infection requires urgent reassessment.
- Use only under medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
