ASTODRIMER
Generic Name: ASTODRIMER
ABSTRACT -
Astodrimer, commonly as astodrimer sodium, is a highly branched negatively charged dendrimer developed as a topical anti-infective and microbicidal agent. It has been used or studied in vaginal gel formulations for bacterial vaginosis and as a broad-spectrum antiviral barrier technology. Systemic absorption is intended to be minimal with topical mucosal use.
DOSAGE -
Dosing depends on the locally authorized product or clinical study. Vaginal gel regimens are intravaginal and time-limited; nasal or other topical formulations, if investigational, must follow the protocol. Do not ingest or inject.
SIDE EFFECTS–
- Possible or reported side effects may include:
- Local irritation
- Vaginal burning, itching, or discharge changes
- Application-site discomfort
- Headache
- Urinary or genital discomfort
- Allergic local reaction
- Rare systemic effects because absorption is low
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
Local or systemic hypersensitivity can include severe burning, rash, swelling, hives, dyspnea, or anaphylaxis.
DRUG INTERACTIONS-
Use caution with:
- Other intravaginal medicines or products
- Condoms/diaphragms if product compatibility is uncertain
- Topical irritants or spermicides
- Other investigational anti-infectives
- Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements they are using.
PREAUTIONS–
- Confirm pregnancy status when relevant.
- Avoid use with incompatible intravaginal products.
- Evaluate persistent symptoms to exclude sexually transmitted infections or complicated infection.
WARNINGS –
- Not all formulations are approved in all countries.
- Seek medical care for severe irritation, fever, pelvic pain, or allergic reaction.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose, severe reaction, or clinical deterioration, seek immediate medical attention.
