AVOTERMIN
Generic Name: AVOTERMIN
ABSTRACT -
Avotermin is recombinant human transforming growth factor beta-3 (rhTGF-beta3), a cytokine biologic investigated as an intradermal antiscarring therapy to improve scar appearance after surgery or wound repair. As a recombinant protein, it does not have a meaningful small-molecule molecular formula. The representation above shows a biologic protein schematic.
This document is for structured API information only. It is not a prescribing guide. Clinical use, if any, must follow the approved local label, trial protocol, and specialist medical supervision.
DOSAGE-
- Dosage should be determined only by a qualified healthcare professional or clinical-trial protocol.
- Administration is generally described as local intradermal injection in scar-prevention research settings.
- Dose, timing, site preparation, and wound-care procedures may differ by study design and surgical indication.
- Do not use or repeat treatment without specialist medical supervision.
SIDE EFFECTS-
Possible side effects and safety concerns include:
- Local injection-site pain, redness, swelling, bruising, itching, or tenderness
- Wound-site inflammation, delayed healing, infection, or abnormal scar response may occur
- Headache, malaise, fever, or systemic hypersensitivity symptoms are possible
- Excessive local tissue remodeling or fibrosis-related effects are theoretical concerns
- Post-surgical complications may overlap with biologic treatment effects
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
Hypersensitivity to Avotermin or related compounds/products may occur. Symptoms may include:
- Immediate urticaria, itching, flushing, or generalized rash
- Facial, lip, tongue, or throat swelling
- Wheezing, chest tightness, or breathing difficulty
- Dizziness, fainting, severe hypotension, or collapse
- Anaphylaxis, although uncommon, requires emergency medical treatment
Important: Patients who develop an allergic reaction to Avotermin should seek immediate medical attention and inform all future healthcare providers of the allergy.
DRUG INTERACTIONS-
Avotermin may interact with certain medicines, biologics, vaccines, protocols, or clinical conditions. Caution is needed with:
- Concurrent wound-healing agents, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, or topical medicines may alter local response.
- Anticoagulants or antiplatelet medicines may increase injection-site bleeding or bruising.
- Other investigational biologics should be coordinated through the study protocol.
- Patients should report all medicines, supplements, and wound-care products.
Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, vaccines, and supplements they are using.
PREAUTIONS–
- Assess wound status, infection risk, immune status, and scar history before use.
- Use sterile technique and protocol-defined wound care for local administration.
- Use caution in patients with active skin infection, abnormal wound healing, or keloid tendency.
- Pregnancy and lactation require individualized medical review.
WARNINGS –
- Biologic cytokine therapy can produce unpredictable local or systemic responses.
- Do not inject into infected, poorly vascularized, or clinically unsuitable tissue unless protocol permits.
- Use only in approved or ethics-reviewed clinical settings.
- Keep out of reach of children.
