DALBAVANCIN
Generic Name: DALBAVANCIN
ABSTRACT -
Dalbavancin is a long-acting lipoglycopeptide antibacterial used for acute bacterial skin and skin-structure infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive organisms according to approved labeling.
DOSAGE -
- Follow the approved local label for adult or pediatric dosing.
- Adult regimens include single-dose or two-dose intravenous schedules depending on label and patient factors.
- Infuse over the labeled duration and adjust for renal impairment where required.
SIDE EEFECTS -
- Nausea, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, pruritus, or infusion-site reactions may occur.
- Liver enzyme elevations and hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
- Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea can occur with antibacterial therapy.
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
- Immediate rash, hives, itching, flushing, or generalized skin reaction
- Facial, lip, tongue, or throat swelling
- Wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, or severe dizziness
- Severe hypotension, collapse, or anaphylaxis requires emergency care
- Any suspected allergy should be documented and reported to future healthcare providers
DRUG INTERACTIONS-
- Clinically important CYP interactions are not expected, but concomitant nephrotoxic or hepatotoxic drugs require review.
- Other antibiotics may change microbiology or adverse-effect interpretation.
- Patients should report all medicines and prior glycopeptide reactions.
PREAUTONS–
- Assess allergy history to glycopeptides, renal function, infection source, cultures, and need for source control.
- Monitor for infusion reactions, diarrhea, liver tests, and clinical response.
- Use antimicrobial stewardship principles.
WARNINGS –
- Serious hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, infusion reactions, hepatic effects, or C. difficile diarrhea may occur.
- Use only for infections likely or proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
- Keep out of reach of children.
