ASVASIRAN
Generic Name: ASVASIRAN
ABSTRACT -
Asvasiran, also known as ALN-RSV01, is a small interfering RNA designed to target the respiratory syncytial virus nucleocapsid (N) gene and inhibit viral replication through RNA interference. It has been investigated by inhaled or intranasal delivery, including in lung-transplant recipients with RSV infection. It is not a routine approved antiviral medicine.
DOSAGE -
No approved standard dosage is established. Clinical studies have used inhaled or intranasal protocol-defined regimens for a limited number of days. Administration requires investigational-device and clinical monitoring.
SIDE EFFECTS–
- Possible or reported side effects may include:
- Nasal or airway irritation
- Cough
- Throat discomfort
- Headache
- Fever or infection-related symptoms
- Bronchospasm in susceptible patients
- Hypersensitivity
- Unknown long-term immune/off-target effects
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
Hypersensitivity can include rash, swelling, wheeze, chest tightness, or anaphylaxis.
DRUG INTERACTIONS-
Use caution with:
- Other antivirals such as ribavirin according to protocol
- Immunosuppressants in transplant recipients
- Other inhaled therapies that may affect tolerability
- Investigational nucleic-acid therapies
- Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements they are using.
PREAUTIONS–
- Confirm RSV diagnosis and clinical setting.
- Monitor respiratory status, oxygenation, bronchospasm, and transplant graft function if relevant.
- Use caution in reactive airway disease.
WARNINGS –
- Investigational RNAi therapy; not a substitute for approved RSV prevention or supportive care.
- Breathing difficulty after administration requires urgent care.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose, severe reaction, or clinical deterioration, seek immediate medical attention.
