AMIGLUMIDE

Generic Name: AMIGLUMIDE

ABSTRACT -

Amiglumide is a non-peptide cholecystokinin (CCK) receptor antagonist, primarily described as a CCK-A/CCK1 antagonist in gastrointestinal pharmacology research. It has been investigated for effects on gallbladder contraction, biliary colic, pancreatic secretion, and related gastrointestinal smooth-muscle responses. It is not a standard approved medicine for routine clinical prescribing.

DOSAGE -

Dosage should be determined only by a qualified healthcare professional.

No approved dosage regimen is available for routine clinical use.

Any use should be restricted to approved research protocols with defined dose, route, duration, and monitoring.

Do not substitute amiglumide for approved gastrointestinal medicines.

SIDE EFFECTS–

Possible side effects may include:

  • Gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, or abdominal symptoms
  • Possible alterations in gallbladder motility or digestive secretions
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Uncharacterized hepatic, renal, or metabolic effects in humans
  • Unknown long-term safety profile because clinical use is limited

ALLRGIC REACTIONS–

Hypersensitivity to amiglumide or related non-peptide CCK antagonists may occur. Symptoms may include:

  • Skin rash
  • Urticaria
  • Pruritus
  • Facial swelling
  • Severe allergic reaction symptoms

Important: Patients who develop an allergic reaction to Amiglumide should seek immediate medical attention and inform all future healthcare providers of the allergy.

DRUG INTERACTIONS–

Amiglumide may interact with certain medicines or substances. Caution is needed with:

  • Medicines affecting gallbladder contraction, gastric emptying, or pancreatic secretion may have overlapping pharmacodynamic effects.
  • Use caution with hepatobiliary medicines and drugs requiring bile-dependent absorption.
  • Other investigational gastrointestinal agents may increase uncertainty in safety monitoring.
  • Patients should report all prescription, OTC, herbal, and supplement use.

Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements they are using.

PREAUTIONS–

  • Not recommended outside research settings.
  • Use caution in hepatobiliary disease, pancreatitis, or active gastrointestinal obstruction.
  • Pregnancy and lactation safety are not established.
  • Monitor liver, pancreatic, and gastrointestinal symptoms if studied clinically.

WARNINGS –

  • Amiglumide is not an approved routine medicine.
  • Safety, efficacy, dosing, and contraindications are not fully characterized.
  • Serious abdominal pain, jaundice, or allergic symptoms require immediate medical evaluation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
