Generic Name: CAMOTESKIMAB
ABSTRACT -
Camoteskimab (AMG 282) is a humanised monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-33 (IL-33), an alarmin cytokine released by epithelial cells in response to tissue damage that activates innate immune responses contributing to allergic inflammation. It is being evaluated for atopic dermatitis, asthma, eosinophilic oesophagitis, and other IL-33-driven inflammatory conditions. Phase II trials are assessing efficacy in these indications.
DOSAGE -
Subcutaneous injection; monthly or bimonthly dosing under evaluation in Phase II studies across indications.
SIDE EFFECTS -
- Injection site reactions
- Upper respiratory tract infections
- Headache
- Nasopharyngitis
- Fatigue
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require immediate medical attention.
- Injection site hypersensitivity
- Urticaria
- Angioedema
- Anaphylaxis (rare)
DRUG INTERACTIONS-
- Normalisation of inflammatory signalling may alter CYP enzyme activity — monitor narrow therapeutic index drugs
- Additive effect with other biologics targeting Type 2 inflammation
- Live vaccines contraindicated during treatment
PREAUTONS–
- Screen for parasitic infections before initiation (IL-33 involved in anti-helminth immunity)
- Monitor for exacerbations during treatment initiation
- Pregnancy safety not established
- Injection site rotation recommended to minimise reactions
WARNINGS –
- Immunosuppression may increase infection risk
- Hypersensitivity including anaphylaxis possible
- Long-term safety of IL-33 pathway blockade continues to be evaluated
