ANECORTAVE
Generic Name: ANECORTAVE
ABSTRACT -
Anecortave, commonly used as anecortave acetate in research, is an angiostatic cortisene structurally related to corticosteroids but designed to lack typical glucocorticoid activity. It has been investigated for ocular neovascular disorders such as age-related macular degeneration and for intraocular-pressure effects.
DOSAGE -
- Dosage should be determined only by a qualified ophthalmology specialist.
- Anecortave acetate has been studied as a posterior or anterior juxtascleral depot injection.
- Routine approved use is limited or unavailable in many regions.
- Ocular examination and follow-up are required after administration.
SIDE EFFECTS–
- Possible side effects include:
- Eye discomfort
- Conjunctival redness
- Blurred vision
- Increased or altered intraocular pressure
- Ocular inflammation
- Headache
- Injection-related pain
- Possible infection risk with ocular procedures
ALLRGIC REACTIONS–
- Possible allergic reaction symptoms include:
- Periocular rash
- Urticaria
- Eyelid swelling
- Generalized hypersensitivity
- Breathing difficulty
- Important: Patients who develop an allergic reaction to Anecortave should seek immediate medical attention and inform all future healthcare providers of the allergy.
DRUG INTERACTIONS–
- Other ocular procedures or injections may increase infection or inflammation risk.
- Corticosteroids and glaucoma medicines may affect intraocular pressure interpretation.
- Anticoagulants may increase procedure-related bleeding risk.
- Anti-VEGF therapy sequencing should be guided by ophthalmology protocol.
- Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, vaccines, and supplements they are using.
PREAUTIONS–
- Use only by clinicians trained in ocular depot administration.
- Monitor visual acuity, intraocular pressure, inflammation, and retinal status.
- Use caution in active ocular infection or severe ocular inflammation.
- Not a substitute for approved retinal disease therapy unless specifically indicated.
WARNINGS –
- Urgent care is needed for eye pain, sudden vision loss, severe redness, or photophobia.
- Development and marketing status should be verified before use.
- Do not self-administer.
- Keep out of reach of children.
