EFAPROXIRAL
Generic Name: EFAPROXIRAL
ABSTRACT -
Efaproxiral is a small molecule designed to allosterically modify hemoglobin and promote oxygen unloading to tissues. It was investigated as a radiosensitizing adjunct in oncology.
DOSAGE -
Investigational dosing only; historically studied as adjunctive therapy under protocol conditions.
SIDE EEFECTS -
- Hypoxemia-related symptoms if oxygen delivery is altered
- Headache or dizziness
- Nausea
- Dyspnea
- Laboratory or acid-base changes depending on regimen
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require medical attention.
- Rash, urticaria, bronchospasm, angioedema, or anaphylaxis
DRUG INTEACTIONS-
- Oxygen therapy, radiotherapy, and cardiopulmonary drugs require protocol review
- Drugs affecting hemoglobin or oxygenation may alter safety
- Avoid unverified combinations in hypoxemic patients
PREAUTONS–
- Monitor oxygen saturation, cardiopulmonary status, and neurologic symptoms
- Use caution in anemia, cardiopulmonary disease, and pregnancy
- Confirm formulation and development status
WARNINGS –
- Altered oxygen affinity can be dangerous in patients with limited cardiopulmonary reserve
