EFALIZUMAB
Generic Name: EFALIZUMAB
ABSTRACT -
Efalizumab is a monoclonal antibody against CD11a/LFA-1 that was used for psoriasis but was withdrawn in many markets because of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) risk.
DOSAGE -
Do not initiate unless an authorized product and risk program exist locally. Historical SC dosing should not be used as current guidance.
SIDE EEFECTS -
- Headache
- Chills, fever, or flu-like symptoms
- Nausea
- Leukocytosis or lymphocytosis
- Infections
ALLERGIC REACTIONS -
These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require medical attention.
- Rash, urticaria, angioedema, bronchospasm, or anaphylaxis
DRUG INTEACTIONS-
- Other immunosuppressants increase infection and malignancy risk
- Live vaccines should be avoided
- Psoriasis biologic combinations require specialist review
PREAUTONS–
- Screen for infection and neurologic symptoms
- Monitor for PML warning signs, platelet changes, and immune rebound
- Do not use without current regulatory authorization
WARNINGS –
- PML can be fatal or severely disabling
- Serious infections, malignancy risk, and rebound psoriasis may occur
