CALDARET

Generic Name: CALDARET

ABSTRACT -

Caldaret (MCC-135) is an investigational cardioprotective agent targeting intracellular calcium overload during ischaemia-reperfusion injury. It acts as a combined calcium sensitiser and mitochondrial protector, aiming to preserve cardiomyocyte viability during PTCA and myocardial infarction interventions. Phase II studies evaluated it as an adjunct to primary PCI for reducing infarct size.

DOSAGE -

Intravenous infusion; administered as loading dose followed by maintenance infusion during and after PCI per clinical protocol.

SIDE EFFECTS -

  • Hypotension
  • Bradycardia
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Injection site reactions

ALLERGIC REACTIONS -

These symptoms may indicate an allergic reaction and require immediate medical attention.

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Skin rash
  • Urticaria
  • Anaphylaxis (rare)

DRUG INTERACTIONS-

  • Additive hypotensive effect with antihypertensives and vasodilators
  • Caution with antiarrhythmic drugs — electrophysiological interactions
  • Interaction with anticoagulants in PCI setting — monitor carefully

PREAUTONS–

  • Haemodynamic monitoring required during infusion
  • Use only in cardiology settings with resuscitation capability
  • Not established for use in cardiogenic shock
  • Pregnancy and lactation safety not established

WARNINGS –

  • Risk of haemodynamic compromise — have vasopressor agents ready
  • Phase II trials showed mixed results in infarct size reduction
  • Not approved; use restricted to clinical trial settings
