DIAZEPAM
Generic Name : DIAZEPAM
ABSTRACT -
Diazepam is a medication drug that is used to treat general anxiety disorders, as well as in therapy treatment of alcohol withdrawal symptoms. This drug works by altering chemicals within the brain to treat an imbalance responsible for anxiety. This drug, classified as an anticonvulsant benzodiazepine, is also used to treat muscle spasms and seizures.
DOSAGE –

- Diazepam is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Do not suddenly stop taking these drugs without consulting the doctor, to avoid serious withdrawal symptoms.
- The drug course does not last for over 4 months.

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses such as glaucoma, respiratory disorders or conditions, epilepsy, kidney / liver disorder, substance abuse or mental illnesses.
- Do not use this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself, or in case of myasthenia gravis, severe liver disease, severe breathing difficulties, alcoholism or sleep apnea.
- Consult a doctor during usage of this drug while pregnant, as it may cause a risk for the unborn baby or even make the child dependent on the drug – yet, it is important to calculate the difference between benefits and risks in such conditions.
- Do not nurse while on drug course as Diazepam can transfer through breast milk and harm a newborn.
- Discard left-over medication after drug course to avoid accidents.
- Avoid alcohol while on drug course.
- Avoid grapefruit while on drug course.
WARNINGS –
- Do not share this drug with another as it can cause addiction or accidental overdose. In case of substance abuse or drug addiction, never hesitate to reach out for help.
- Never use this drug with opioid medication, alcohol or drug that slow breathing rate.
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not recommended for children below 6 months old of age.
- The sedative quality of this drug can affect those of older age than the younger patients. These patients need to be in a safe place, so as to avoid accidents or falling off due to sedation.
- Avoid complicated activities such as driving while on drug course, to avoid fatal accidents.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Overdose symptoms may include lack of motor coordination, weak muscles or fainting.
