Generic Name : EPLERENONE
ABSTRACT -
Eplerenone is used to treat patients who have a high blood pressure. The medication is used alone or is combined with other drugs to give the best results. The consumption of drug block a chemical called aldosterone which in turn reduces the amount of sodium and water that the body retains. As a result, with lowering blood pressure the risks like heart stroke, kidney problems, and strokes are reduced. The medication is also used to treat heart attack patients with a congestive heart failure.
DOSAGE –
- Eplerenone has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- Adult dosages: Oral Tablet: Initial dose- 25 mg once a day Target dose- 50 mg once a day

- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Albuminuria
- Hypercholesterolemia
- Hypertriglyceridemia
- Cough
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Gynecomastia
- Mastodynia
- Excessive cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood
- Arm, back or jaw pain
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Confusion
- Difficulty in breathing
- Fast or irregular heartbeats
- Headache

PRECAUTIONS –
- Pharmacist must be consulted before the consumption of this drug as it contains components and inactive ingredients which may lead to allergic reactions.
- The patient should beforehand discuss any medical history related to high potassium blood vessels, heart disease, diabetes, kidney problems.
- Since this drug makes a person dizzy so activities like driving and others which need more attention should be avoided.
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking should be prevented.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH EPLERENONE:
- Use of Eplerenone in pregnancy may be acceptable only if the benefits exceed the risks involved.
- Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
- Do not nurse while on drug course, as this drug may transfer through breast milk and may harm a newborn.
WARNINGS –
- If any patient is taking moderate CYP3A inhibitors then the dosage of this drug should be reduced.
- Use of this drug in children is not considered to be safe. Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
