Smell test for Parkinsons Disease
A team of researchers in Manchester, England have teamed with Joy Milne, a nurse who can smell the Parkinsons disease in patients. According to a study published in ACS Central Science journal, Parkinson’s patients secrete a particular, unique musk. A reliable way of detecting the Parkinson’s has not been found till date. However, Joy Milne claimed that she could detect Parkinsons disease by a strong woody, musky odor. Sebum of different people were tested and it was discovered that sebum of Parkinson’s patients had hippuric acid, eicosane and octadecanal which cause the distinctive scent. This breakthrough can assist doctors to diagnose Parkinson’s in future at early stages.
