ASUNAPREVIR

Generic Name: ASUNAPREVIR

ABSTRACT -

Asunaprevir is an oral direct-acting antiviral inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus NS3/4A serine protease. It was approved in some countries as part of combination regimens, historically with daclatasvir, for selected HCV genotypes. Current HCV treatment has largely shifted to pan-genotypic regimens, so use depends on local availability, resistance profile, and hepatology guidance.

DOSAGE -

Dosage must follow the local product label if available. It should be used only in combination with appropriate antiviral partners; monotherapy is not appropriate. Baseline genotype, liver function, resistance, and drug interactions guide regimen selection.

SIDE EFFECTS–

Possible or reported side effects may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Elevated ALT/AST
  • Rash or pruritus
  • Anemia if combined with ribavirin-containing regimens
  • Hepatic decompensation risk in advanced liver disease

ALLERGIC REACTIONS -

Hypersensitivity may include rash, hives, swelling, dyspnea, or anaphylaxis.

DRUG INTERACTIONS-

Use caution with:

  • Strong CYP3A inducers or inhibitors
  • Other direct-acting antivirals according to label
  • Statins and transporter substrates where relevant
  • Ribavirin or interferon when used historically
  • Hepatotoxic drugs
  • Patients should inform healthcare providers about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, and supplements they are using.

PREAUTIONS–

  • Assess HCV genotype, viral load, fibrosis/cirrhosis status, HBV status, liver enzymes, pregnancy status, and concomitant medicines.
  • Monitor liver function during therapy.

WARNINGS –

  • Not for monotherapy.
  • Severe liver injury or allergic reaction requires immediate evaluation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • In case of overdose, severe reaction, or clinical deterioration, seek immediate medical attention.
