Generic Name : CITALOPRAM HYDROBROMIDE
ABSTRACT -
Celexa is a well-known anti-depressant drug in the psychiatry-pharma industry that is used to treat depression. It is classified as SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors). It works by selectively preventing the reuptake of serotonin hormones to treat major depressive disorders. It is to be used in situations where the benefit of curing clinical depression outweighs the risk of suicidal behavior or tendencies developing.
DOSAGE –

- Celexa is to be taken only as directed by the doctors.
- Celexa comes in different forms – tablet, oral solution and injection. Follow dosage prescriptions strictly.
- Symptoms may take up to 4 weeks to improve. Notify a doctor in case symptoms do not improve.
- General Adult Dosage available: Oral tablet – 20mg, 40mg
- Oral solution – 10mg/5mL

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of a blood clot disorder, seizures, epilepsy, glaucoma, liver disease, kidney disease, heart problems, bipolar disorder or substance abuse.
- Do not use Celexa in case of an allergic reaction to the drug.
- Do not use this drug while pregnant or while nursing, as Citalopram (that can also transfer through breast milk) can cause damage to the mother’s system or the newborn child.
- Avoid alcohol.
- Consult a doctor regarding the usage of NSAIDs while on drug course.
WARNINGS –
- Several drugs can interact lethally with Celexa. Provide the doctor a detailed drug history beforehand.
- This drug can cause the patient to be vulnerable to suicidal tendencies or behavior. Proper care must be provided by friends or family along with therapy while on drug course.
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not recommended for children below the age of 18.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
