Generic Name : POLETHYLENE GLYCOL ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION
ABSTRACT -
GoLYTELY is classified as a laxative solution, used to stimulate bowel movements before a colonoscopy, a barium x-ray or other intestinal-investigative procedures. This drug not only flushes out the bowels, but also replaces electrolytes with minerals that pass into stools.
DOSAGE –
-
- GoLYTELY is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects.
- The powder form of this drug is to be mixed with water as a solution before using.
- Do not drink this solution in case it has been less than an hour since the last meal of solid food. Consume this drug 2-4 hours after a meal for best results.
- Dispose of unused powder within 24-48 hours after mixing.

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses and conditions such as kidney disease, GERD, ulcerative colitis, bowel disorders, seizures, G6PD deficiency, or substance abuse.
- Do not use this drug in case of an allergy to GoLYTELY / other electrolyte solutions, or in case of perforated bowel, bowel obstruction or colitis. Patients suffering from eating disorders must consult a doctor before using this drug at all.
- Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions.
- Consume clear liquids at all times while on drug course. Avoid food/beverages that contain pulp or are reddish in color.
- Avoid drinking or eating anything 2 hours prior to an investigative procedure.
- Consult a doctor regarding steps to be taken while using this drug during pregnancy or nursing period.
WARNINGS –
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of phenylketonuria, this drug may be unsafe for the patient as it contains phenylalanine.
- Contact a doctor immediately in case of severely low blood pressure. Symptoms of the same may be vomiting, diarrhea or abnormal amounts of sweating.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
