ECZEMA
ABSTRACT -
Eczema is a chronic condition where the skin becomes itchy, red, and dry accompanied with inflammation. Blisters can also be seen sometimes on the skin. It is most commonly found in children, although adults can also get affected. It is also called atopic dermatitis.
Types:- Allergic contact dermatitis
- Dyshidrotic eczema
- Neurodermatitis
- Nummular eczema
- Seborrheic eczema
- Stasis dermatitis
CAUSES -
- Genetics and hereditory
- Abnormal function of the immune system or low immunity
- Environmental factors like temperature variation, food, irritants etc.
- Skin irritation from chemicals or daily products
- Stress
- Hormonal imbalance
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS -
- Skin dryness
- Severe itching on the skin with small bumps
- Red patches on any part of the body but majorly found on the hands, feet, ankles, neck, bend of elbows and knees, and the face and scalp in infants
- Cracked, rough, thick scaly skin
DIAGNOSIS -
- No lab test needed
- Skin examination and reviewing medical history
- Patch testing
TREATMENT -
- Medications and creams to control itching, reduce inflammation, repair and restore the skin.
- Treating infection with drugs
- Different therapies like Wet dressings, Light therapy, Counseling, Relaxation and behavior therapies can help in treating Eczema.

- Moisturize skin
- Identify and avoid triggers that might worsen the condition
- Take shorter baths or showers
- Use gentle and sensitive soaps
- Dry the body carefully without scratching
EPIDEMIOLOGY -
- Estimation shows that 15-20% of children and 1-3% of adults were affected annually which has increased over the past few years.
