BELVIQ

Generic Name : LORCASERIN

ABSTRACT -

Belviq is a drug that is accompanied by exercise and dieting to treat weight-related lifestyle diseases such as obesity. This drug works by controlling the patient’s appetite to support a dieting lifestyle. This is achieved by affecting chemical signals in the brain to make one feel full even after smaller meals. Belviq is classified as an ‘Anorexiant’.

DOSAGE –

  • Belviq is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
  • General dosage available as –
  • Tablet – 10mg
  • Belviq is generally to be taken twice a day.
  • Swallow the tablet whole.
  • The intensity and strength of dosage may change depending upon bodily conditions such as weight and health risks. Report changes in weight regularly to the doctor.

Belviq has moderate interactions with 240 different drugs.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide your doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history before drug prescription. Notify your doctor in case you are diabetic, are allergic to Belviq, have heart valve disorders, leukemia, anemia or other physical deformities.
  • Avoid consuming other cough or allergy medications while on course.
  • Do not use this drug in case patient is pregnant. Consult a doctor regarding instructions on how to handle excess weight during pregnancy.
  • Belviq is only part of an entire lifestyle scheme to decrease obesity. Co-operate with the doctor’s plans to exercise and diet in order to render this drug more effective.
  • Belviq is not to be shared with another patient.
  • During drug course, co-operate with medical tests to ensure regular levels of blood sugar.
  • After consuming this drug and following scheme for 12 weeks, at least 5% of weight loss (relative to original weight before course) must occur. In case this does not happen, report your findings to the concerned doctor.

WARNINGS –

  • Belviq does not treat any underlying conditions that may have given rise to obesity or weight gain. Keep in mind that Belviq is only used to regulate appetite.
  • Try not to engage in complicated activities that demand your entire attention and concentration while on drug course, as Belviq may impair thinking slightly.
  • Belviq may be habit forming. Make sure not to become dependent on this drug. In case of addiction, contact your doctor as soon as you can.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • In case of an overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
