BENAZEPRIL
Generic Name : BENAZEPRIL
ABSTRACT -
Benazepril is a drug used to treat hypertensive blood pressure conditions by lowering it. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risks of heart attacks and strokes. It is classified as an ‘ACE inhibitor’. Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors like Benazepril prevent angiotensin I from being converted into angiotensin II, thus preventing increase in aldosterone secretion. Benazepril is also categorized as an ‘antihypertensive’.
DOSAGE –
- This drug is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- General dosage available: Tablet – 5mg, 10mg, 20mg, 40mg
SIDE EFFECTS –
Diagnosis is usually recommended to –
- Headaches
- Coughing
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Allergic reactions such as - hives, rashes, itching, difficulty in breathing, swelling of facial areas
- Severe episodes of dizziness
- Pain in the upper abdomen
- Jaundice
- Nausea
- Exhaustion
- Difficulty in urinating
- Irregular palpitations

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide your doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history before drug prescription. Notify your doctor especially in case you are allergic to this drug or any other ACE inhibitor, have hereditary angioedema, carry transplanted organs, or are diabetic.
- This drug is not recommended to patients that are pregnant or plan to be pregnant. Consult a doctor regarding regulation of blood pressure and pregnancy conditions.
- Do not breastfeed while on drug course, as Benazepril may transfer through breast milk.
- Kidney functions and general health must be regulated and monitored while on drug course.
- Avoid alcohol while on drug course.
- Keep yourself hydrated well while on drug course, as Benazepril can cause dehydration easily.
WARNINGS –
- Avoid using medicines that contain the drug component Sacubitril within a 36-hour range of consuming Benazepril.
- Do not consume Benazepril with Aliskiren, especially in case you are diabetic.
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not recommended to children under the age of 6.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
