Generic Name : DULOXETINE
ABSTRACT -
Cymbalta is an important medication used in psychiatry, to treat major depressive disorder, general anxiety disorder, pain caused by nerve damaged in diabetics and even fibromyalgia. Cymbalta attempts to undo the imbalance within the brains of people that suffer from mental health issues. This drug is classified as a ‘serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor’.
DOSAGE –
-
- Cymbalta is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- The drug is generally taken once a day. (With the general dosage being 30mg)
- The oral capsule is to be consumed whole without being crushed, with/without food.
- This drug generally takes 2-4 weeks for the symptoms to wear off; but the use of this drug must not be terminated unless recommended as such.

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of seizures, epilepsies, blood clot disorders, narrow-angle glaucoma, diabetes, difficulty in urination, bipolar disorder, drug addiction of thoughts of suicide.
- Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself.
- Do not consume this drug in case of the need to take an MAO inhibitor within 5 days prior to14 days after the consumption of Cymbalta.
- Do not consume this drug during the third trimester of a pregnancy to avoid dangerous fatalities.
- Avoid alcohol while on drug course.
- Usage of NSAIDs while on drug course must be approved by the doctor before consumption.
WARNINGS –
- Several drugs may interact with Cymbalta to cause serotonin syndrome. Provide a proper drug history to the doctor before consuming this drug. Do not use this drug along with other antidepressants, St. John’s wort, amphetamines, blood thinners or other antibiotics without the approval of a doctor.
- This drug can impair thinking and reaction time. It is recommended not to be involved in complicated activities such as driving that may demand the entire attention of the patient.
- Cymbalta can cause several effects on the mental health of an individual. So as to keep the patient mentally stable at all times, frequent checks must be made by the doctor, family and friends.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
