Generic Name : DICYCLOMINE
ABSTRACT -
Dicyclomine is a prescription drug that is classified as an anticholinergic/antispasmodic used to treat diseases associated with the bowel, specifically irritable bowel syndrome. This drug treats functional bowel by relieving the muscles that are going through spasms within the stomach as well as the intestines.
DOSAGE –
- Dicyclomine is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- This drug is generally taken four times a day, with a whole glass of water.
- Results may be observed after 2 weeks of treatment.
- General Adult Dosage available: Oral tablet – 20mg (initial dose), 40mg (maintenance dose) Oral solution – 10mg/5mL, 10mg/mL Intramuscular Injection – 10mg, 20mg
SIDE EFFECTS –
- Exhaustion
- Blurry vision
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Severe constipation or bloating
- Severe diarrhea
- Extreme thirst
- Hallucination
- Unusual behavior
- Irregular palpitations

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor a detailed and accurate medical history as well as drug history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of conditions such as colitis, colostomy, nerve problems, liver / kidney disease, heart conditions, and hernia or in case of an enlarged prostate.
- Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself or in case of difficulty urinating, constipation, severe colitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, severe heart conditions, myasthenia gravis or glaucoma.
- Always keep the patient hydrated while on drug course, as this drug can decrease sweating and lead to heat stroke in certain environments.
- Avoid alcohol so as not to aggravate side effects of this drug.
- Avoid using antacids while on drug course, unless advised.
WARNINGS –
- Avoid complicated activities such as driving while on drug course, to avoid injuries or accidents.
- In case of serious side effects that involve extremely abnormal behavior, uneven heart rates or low amount of urination, stop using the drug and call a doctor immediately.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, extreme weakness, difficulty swallowing, fainting or seizures.
