ECOTRIN
Generic Name : ASPIRIN
ABSTRACT -
Ecotrin is a medication which is used to treat symptoms involving fever, mild to moderate pain like body pain, headache and muscle cramps. It also treats the pain and swelling in patients suffering from arthritis. Aspirin is also called as salicylate and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The drug works by blocking the development of certain natural substances for reducing pain and swelling.

SIDE EFFECTS –
- Abdominal or stomach pain with cramps
- Black, tarry stools
- Bloody or cloudy urine
- Change in consciousness
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Confusion
- Constipation
- Dark urine
- Decreased frequency or amount of urine
- Diarrhea
- Difficulty in breathing
- Drowsiness
- Faintness
- Fast breathing
- Fever
- Tiredness and weakness
- Headache
- Heartburn
- Increased thirst
- Indigestion
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Acidic or sour stomach
- Anxiety
- Dizziness
- Dry mouth
- Hyperventilation
- Irritability
- Discomfort or pain in stomach
- Trouble in sleeping
- Unusual drowsiness and dullness

PRECAUTIONS –
- Pharmacist must be consulted before the consumption of this drug as it contains components and inactive ingredients which may lead to allergic reactions.
- Any medical history related to bleeding or blood clotting disorders should be disclosed.
- Low doses of aspirin are advised to prevent blood clots for reducing the risk of heart stroke and attacks.
- Patients who have had surgery for clogged arteries are recommended to go for low doses of aspirin to work as blood thinner.
- The drug should be used only the under the supervision of doctors in case of cardiovascular conditions.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH ECOTRIN:
- Use of Ecotrin in pregnancy is not recommended for reducing pain or treating fever.
- Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
- Do not nurse while on drug course, as this drug may transfer through breast milk and may harm a newborn.
- In case of treating heart stroke or attacks, drug can be used prior to consultation.
- In urgent cases, low dose of the drug 40-150 mg a day can be used after consulting the doctor.
WARNINGS –
- It is important to ask a doctor before giving the medicine to a child below 12 years of age.
- Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
- Limit the use of alcohol and smoking while consuming the drug as it may increase stomach bleeding.
- Children below18 years of age suffering from chicken pox or any kind of flu should not consume this drug.
