ENBREL

Generic Name : ETANERCEPT

ABSTRACT -

Enbrel is a medication drug that is classified as a Tumor Necrosis Factor Blocker (TNF Blocker). This drug is generally used to treat illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, plaque psoriasis, polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis and is used as preventive medication for joint damage. This drug acts by lowering TNF levels that are considered responsible for attacking regular cells during autoimmune disorders. This drug is also classified as an antirheumatic.

DOSAGE –

    • Enbrel is to be taken as directed by the doctors.
    • This drug is to be injected under the skin. Patient may be asked to dilute the injection with a separate liquid.
    • Unused solution is required to be disposed of within 14 days.

Injection – 50mg in 1mL

  • Pain or itching at the site of injection

Enbrel has moderate interactions with 137 different drugs.

PRECAUTIONS –

  • Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses such as any condition that leads to a weak immune system, fever, diarrhea, tuberculosis, open wounds, diabetic conditions, Hepatitis B, heart conditions, epilepsy, asthmatic conditions, allergies or vaccinations that have to be taken in the upcoming future.
  • Ensure that children consuming this drug have taken all necessary vaccines.
  • Do not nurse while on drug course as Enbrel can transfer through breast milk and cause harm to a newborn.
  • Certain kinds of Enbrel cannot be used for children who weigh less than 138 pounds. Consult a doctor as to which brand of the drug needs to be used.
  • Do not inject this drug twice in a row at the same injection site.
  • Cooperate with frequent blood tests to ensure regular health.
  • Notify a surgeon of drug intake beforehand, in case of upcoming surgery.
  • Avoid live vaccines during drug course.

WARNINGS –

  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Several drugs may interact with Enbrel. Provide a detailed drug list to the doctor before using Enbrel.
  • This drug can severely weaken the immune system. Keep the patient away from all possible infections.
  • This drug can sometimes cause a high risk of developing lymphoma in young male individuals. Contact a doctor in case of any strange occurrences with health.
  • In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
