Generic Name : ERTAPENEM
ABSTRACT -
Ertapenem drug works as an antibiotic in the body to treat bacteria. The medication is commonly known as carbapenem-type antibiotic which works by stopping the growth of bacterial infections in the body. The drug treats the symptoms of different severe infections of stomach, skin, urinary tract, lungs, and pelvis.
DOSAGE –
- Ertapenem has to be taken as directed by the doctors.
- Adult dosages: 1 gram IV or IM once daily for 5 to 14 days
- Pediatric dosages: 3 months to 12 years: 15 mg/kg IV or IM every 12 hours 13 years or older: 1 gram IV or IM once daily for 5 to 14 days

- Bleeding
- Tenderness
- Diarrhea
- Itching on skin
- Numbness
- Pain and redness of skin
- Swelling
- Rashes
- Inflammation
- Ulceration
- Soreness
- Discoloration of skin
- Unusually warm skin
RARE SIDE EFFECTS:
- Abdominal or stomach cramps
- Fast or irregular breathing
- Fever
- Increased thirst
- Tightness in chest
- Vomiting
- Bloating
- Convulsions
- Loss of bladder control
- Muscle spasm
- Nausea
- Trouble in breathing
- Unusual tiredness or weakness
- Diarrhea
- Faintness
- Unusual weight loss
- Sudden loss of consciousness
- Swelling of eyes or eyelids
- Wheezing

- Mycophenolate mofetil

- Amifampridine
- Estradiol
PRECAUTIONS –
- This drug contains inactive ingredients which may result in allergic reactions. So a pharmacist must be consulted before consuming it.
- It is utmost necessary to discuss any medical history related to brain disorders, stomach diseases, head injury, tumor, kidney disease and intestinal diseases.
- Any kind of vaccination or immunization is not recommended while using this drug.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION WITH ERTAPENEM:
- Use of Ertapenem in pregnancy may be acceptable only if the benefits exceed the risks involved.
- Studies in animal pregnancy have shown adverse effects on fetus. But no adequate studies have been found in humans to access the damage involved.
- Do not nurse while on drug course, as this drug may transfer through breast milk and may harm a newborn.
WARNINGS –
- Remember not to inject the drug into muscles if patient is allergic to numbing medicines like Lidocaine or Novocain.
- Keep out of reach of children. In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
