ABSTRACT -
Eszopiclone is an anxiolytic medication drug that is used to treat insomnia in patients who face difficulties in sleeping or have irregular sleep cycles. This drug works as a sedative by causing relaxation to aid sound sleep.
DOSAGE –

- Eszopiclone is to be taken as directed by the doctors. Consume this drug only as prescribed to avoid overdose or other harmful effects.
- This drug is to be taken orally once a day (1-3mg) before bedtime.

PRECAUTIONS –
- Provide the doctor with a detailed and accurate medical history prior to drug prescription. Notify especially in case of illnesses or conditions such as liver disease, breathing disorders, alcoholism/substance abuse or any kind of mental illness.
- Do not consume this drug in case of an allergy to the drug itself.
- Do not consume this drug during normal waking hours. This drug may put one to sleep for 7-8 hours.
- Inform the doctor of all the drugs being consumed so as to avoid severe drug interactions.
- Strictly avoid alcohol while on drug course.
- Avoid having this drug an hour after consuming a fat-heavy meal.
WARNINGS –
- Keep out of reach of children. This drug is not meant for any individual younger than 18.
- In certain cases, the patient may forget about activity they engaged in while awake during drug course. The doctor may ask them to stop using this drug in case of such severe memory problems.
- Contact a doctor in case symptoms do not improve after 10 days of treatment. After drug course, it is possible that insomnia may reoccur with strengthened intensity. Consult a doctor about what the next step must be in this scenario.
- As this drug may be habit-forming, addiction or overdose are possibilities that may be caused due to misuse. Do not share this drug with another patient unless advised.
- As this drug is a sedative, it is common for accidental injuries to occur during daytime activity – especially in older adults. Keep the patient in a safe environment, and away from any activity that may be hazardous.
- In case of overdose, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Overdose can be fatal.
