Alport Syndrome

The Alport Syndrome is a disorder related to the kidneys and the study of such diseases is called nephrology. This syndrome consists of a number of heterogeneous disorders that are related to the basement membranes of the kidney. These affect the cochlea and eye as well. It can be of different forms mainly as ARAS, ADAS and XLAS. A typical situation which causes this syndrome is the splitting and lamellation of glomerular basement membrane. Renal manifestations are the foremost and most evident signs of Alport Syndrome. There can be hypertension, hematuria and proteinuria also. Some other signs would relate to hearing and ocular impairment and leiomyomatosis. This disorder can cause abnormal functioning of the kidney and the ears.
