THE UNSEEN COPD ENIGMA
Known to man as a smoking related disorder, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) has now become a widespread deadly disease limited not only to smokers. Recent studies have demonstrated that COPD, the fifth deadliest disease, has gotten worse. Developing countries like India where people still burn biomass fuels, this disease is spreading an increased rate. Added to this poor livelihood conditions makes the conditions worse. According to the health experts, this disease is even more difficult to diagnose in non-smokers. Women and young girls too are susceptible to this menace. It’s high time we reduce the use of biomass before the situation gets out of our hands.
