EXCORIATION DISORDER
Excoriation Disorder is an affliction that causes a person to pick their skin. It goes by many names such as dermatillomania, neurotic excoriation and psychogenic excoriation. This disorder leads to constant and repetitive scratching and picking their skin which results into the formation of skin lesion, visible wound and functional impairment. Patients with Excoriation Disorder are also found to have trichotillomania, depression, anxiety, tic disorder, OCD, Body Dysmorphic disorder, scabies and other illnesses. Medications such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety agents, anti-epileptic agents, tropical cortisone agents and anti-psychotic agents can be used to treat this. This disease can be best understood as a psychological disorder with dermatological manifestations.
