CHICKEN POX

ABSTRACT -

Chicken Pox is an infection appear as a small fluid blister which is caused by varicella-zoster virus. It is highly contagious causing itchy rashes on the chest, back, and face which then spreads to other parts of body. Babies, adolescents, adults and pregnant women with weak immune system are more prone to get chicken pox.

CAUSES -

  • Varicella-zoster virus
  • Contact with infected individuals
  • Spreads out through infected air droplets

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS -

  • Fever
  • Malaise
  • Muscle Ache
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
After appearance of rashes:
  • Red spots or papules on the skin
  • Blisters, small fluid filled vesicles appears on the skin
  • Crusts and scabs is a secondary skin lesion which covers the broken blisters

DIAGNOSIS -

It generally gets diagnosed based on the body rash which then gets confirmed by:

  • Blood test
  • Different lab tests
  • Culture of lesion samples.

TREATMENT -

  • The disease can resolve within a week or two without any treatment automatically still hygiene measures are must.
  • Medications are prescribed to reduce the itchiness and uneasiness.
  • Plenty of fluid intake to avoid dehydration.

PREVENTION –

Early vaccination of chickenpox vaccine is the most popular method for all individuals who are prone to get it.

EPIDEMIOLOGY -

It has been seen majorly in children and adolescents below the age of 20 years. However, the rate of chicken pox affecting the infants has been declined by 90%.
