GASTRITIS
ABSTRACT -
Gastritis is an inflammation to the areas covering the stomach. The situation can be acute or chronic that might lead to bleeding, stomach cancer and ulcers. Helicobacter pylori infection in childhood is the main cause of chronic gastritis, which is of microbial origin and is the main key for the understanding the course of the disease.
Types –- Erosive Gastritis
- Non Erosive Gastritis
CAUSES -
- Low immunity
- Various bacterial infections and diseases
- Damage to mucus membrane
- Excessive drinking
- Pain relievers
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS -
- Unpleasant, uneasiness and discomfort feeling
- Nausea and vomit sensations
- Indigestion
- Burning and painful stomach
COMPLICATIONS –
- If left untreated, it might lead to stomach ulcers and tumors
- It decreases body’s ability to absorb iron from blood
DIAGNOSIS -
- Stool testing (collection and analysis of fecal materials)
- Endoscopy
- Electrocardiogram
- Physical examination
- Past medical history and events
TREATMENT -
- Medications like antibiotics to kill bacterial infections
- Antacids to neutralize acid in stomach and relieve it from acidity
RISK FACTORS –
- Bacterial and Viral infections
- Excessive drinking
- Anxiety and stress
- Age
- Use of certain pain relief drugs
- Other diseases and conditions like HIV-AIDS
PREVENTIONS
- Avoid excessive drinking, smoking
- Regular hand wash and maintain hygiene
- Proper diet and healthy food
EPIDEMIOLOGY -
- On an average, half of the people suffers from gastritis worldwide.
- The risk of getting affected by Gastritis increases with the increasing age.
