ABSTRACT -
Gout is a type of arthritis that causes pain, inflammation. swelling, redness and tenderness in joints.
Types –
- Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia
- Acute Gout
- Interval Or Intercritical
- Chronic Tophaceous Gout
- Pseudogout
CAUSES -
- Excess of Uric acid in blood
- Purines
- Certain foods like meat, poultry and sea food
- Excess of alcohol and sweetened drinks
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –
- Difficulty in moving joints normally
- Severe joint pain
- Swelling and redness
- Lingering discomfort and uneasiness
COMPLICATIONS –
- Recurrent gout
- Advanced gout
- Kidney stones
DIAGNOSIS –

- X-ray imaging
- Blood test
- Joint fluid test
- Ultrasound
TREATMENT –
- Medications such as Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), colchicine and corticosteroids and to remove or prevent blockage of uric acid
RISK FACTORS –
- Age
- Certain foods and diet
- Surgeries
- Obesity
- Family history and hereditary
- Certain medications and medical disorders
- Intimation with an infected partner
PREVENTION –
- Limit intake of meat, fish and poultry
- Avoid alcohol, smoking
- Maintain desirable body weight
- Take plenty of liquid fluids and diet
- Consume more protein-rich food such as low dairy products
EPIDEMIOLOGY –
- This condition is common in men than women, although it affects women who are near menopause.
- On a global level, it approximately affects 8.3 million people yearly.
