PLEURISY

ABSTRACT -

Pleurisy is a condition where there is a pain in a membrane called pleura which is situated inside the chest cavity and around the lining of the lungs. This condition results in swelling of pleura and severe pain in the chest. Deep inhaling, coughing, sneezing and laughing becomes difficult due to severe pain. It can get cured with medications but can be life threatening if left untreated.

CAUSES -

  • Bacterial, fungal or viral infections
  • Hereditary factors
  • Autoimmune diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Lung cancer
  • Rib fracture

CAUSES -

  • SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS –
  • Severe chest pain
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Fever
  • Cough

DIAGNOSIS –

  • Blood Test
  • Imaging Tests like CT Scan, chest X-Ray, ECG, Ultrasound, EKG, biopsy etc

TREATMENT –

  • Prescribed Medications for healing underlying situations and relieving pain
  • Thoracentesis- To remove fluid from the pleura
  • Bed rest

RISK FACTORS –

  • Genetics

PREVENTION –

  • Regular and timely checkups
  • Proper rest
  • Treating previous lung infections if any
