Metformin may stop weight regain after loss

Metformin, a drug used to lower blood glucose levels. According to a long term follow up study, It is now used for preventing regain of weight after loss. The patients of a diabetes prevention programme lost 5 per cent of their initial weight after a year after being administered with metformin. After the same group used for a subsequent study, they lost greater weight and maintained their weight loss. Further studies are required to understand whether there will ever be any weight gain or not. There is also a chance for different response to the treatment. The participants are under observation to figure out the long term effects of metformin on their bodies.
