DEATH OF INFANTS IN JUST 24 HOURS IN U.P
Estimates from the data of UNICEF for the state medical council gives the result that about 1.65 lakhs babies die within just 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh, which is basically 61,000 per year. Dr Anil Verma, general manager in national health mission of Uttar Pradesh has said that over 37% of the mortality of infants is within the same day of birth. He also said that the deaths are happening at higher rates and this, in turn, affects the development of India on the whole. Under age marriages and mother’s anaemia are seen as the major causes for these deaths.
