Theoretical HIV Cure by Switching Off Tat Genetic Circuit
Ongoing studies shows HIV hidden inside cells can be eradicated by controlling a genetic switch. The immune system is incapable of identifying cells having potential HIV. When these HIVs activate, the Tat genetic circuit, essential in HIV gene transcription-cum-activation, switches on and the immune system can identify it. Plan is to activate the circuit by introducing drugs etc., after which the immune system, along with HIV specific drugs, will take care of it. Till now no drugs have successfully targeted this circuit. There’s also plan to permanently block the circuit activation. This could prove to be an effective HIV cure.
