Gadodiamide
Generic Name: Gadodiamide
ABSTRACT
gadodiamide is a gadolinium-based contrast agent designed to shorten T1 relaxation during magnetic resonance imaging, improving visualization of vascularity or tissue abnormalities according to the imaging indication.
DOSAGE
Administer intravenously only under an imaging protocol. Dose depends on product formulation, indication, patient weight, renal function, and local prescribing information.
SIDE EFFECTS
- Nausea, headache, dizziness, or altered taste
- Injection-site pain, warmth, or cold sensation
- Transient blood pressure or flushing reactions
- Rare nephrogenic systemic fibrosis risk in severe renal impairment
ALLERGIC REACTIONS
These symptoms may indicate an allergic or hypersensitivity reaction and require medical attention.
- Urticaria, generalized rash, or pruritus
- Angioedema of lips, tongue, throat, or face
- Bronchospasm, dyspnea, wheezing, or chest tightness
- Anaphylaxis or severe infusion/injection reaction
DRUG INTERACTIONS
- No routine cytochrome P450 interaction expected
- Avoid unnecessary repeat gadolinium exposure
- Consider interaction with renal impairment, dehydration, and other nephrotoxic risks
- Follow institutional MRI contrast policies
PRECAUTIONS
- Screen renal function and prior contrast reactions
- Use the lowest appropriate diagnostic dose
- Assess pregnancy and lactation status before imaging
- Monitor after injection in patients with hypersensitivity history
WARNINGS
- Serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis can occur
- Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis risk is highest in severe renal dysfunction
- Gadolinium retention has been reported after repeated GBCA exposure
